Chair’s Update July 2026: Welcoming New Faces, Planning Matters and Bubwith Fun Day
Dear Parishioners of Bubwith, Breighton and Willitoft
It’s hard to believe that tomorrow is the longest day of the year! What on earth happened to June!
Just a few things to cover this month beginning with a warm welcome to our newest Parish Councillor, John Cunnington. John is an Engineer by profession. Following a high-powered career with the National Grid, he has more recently devoted time to volunteer roles. This has been with the Police Crime Commission and as a Governor with an NHS Trust. We look forward to working with John in his new role.
A warm welcome also to Toby Smith who has been appointed as our Bubwith Bugle delivery person. Unfortunately, Kian Church had to withdraw from the role after a few months, we wish Kian well in his future endeavors. Toby is well known within the village and has huge experience of delivering many kinds of leaflets around the parish, welcome Toby.
The PC meeting in June had an interesting debate regarding a planning application from Micro Waste Management Limited on Breighton Airfield to vary their operating hours and giving them the option of operation on a 24 hours/7 days per week basis. They commissioned extensive independent work to assess the noise levels of operating, and the outcome report suggests there will be no negative impact. Whilst the Parish Council has no reason to believe there will be problems with noise, we were minded to comment as follows:
Bubwith Parish Council commented that the company has always been considerate of the local community and the effects of particularly noise to residents. Parish Councillors noted the noise testing and accepted that it shows a small increase in noise but they were concerned that noise depends on eg wind direction. To ensure that residents have an opportunity
to be confident about noise levels it proposes that a temporary permission be granted for one year and presuming no problems the permission is confirmed at that point. This would then satisfy residents that the company is ensuring no problems with noise from this change to 24/7 working. It is hoped that the company accepts this in good faith
We also felt we should bring this application to the attention of residents to enable them to review it
for themselves and comment if they wish to. The application can be found here . Search for Variation of Condition 3 (operating hours) of planning permission 03/03273/STPLF .
Finally, a brief reminder of Bubwith Fun Day is planned for the 23rd of August 2026 (grant dependent) and our search for memories and memorabilia to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Playing Fields and centre. Some people have kindly come forward to share their experience. But I know there are many more (because they tell me so). If you feel able to share, please contact Alison Craven, . If no internet then just give me a call and I’ll put you in touch. We would like to have a display and possibly video films of these much-loved events on the 23rd
.
Best wishes
