Chair’s Update May 2026: Bubwith Community News, Events and 75th Anniversary Plans
Dear Parishioners of Bubwith, Breighton and Willitoft
When thinking about the Chair’s bit for the Bugle this month I didn’t think I had much to say (a phenomena my husband would seriously challenge). However, now my fingers are on the keys I’ve remembered how much is going on in our community, so here goes!
To begin with, a sincere welcome to newcomers to the village, you are most welcome and we hope you will be very happy living here. There are lots of things to get involved in so please don’t be shy about coming forward and before you know it you’ll be a local!
Welcome also to our newly appointed Bubwith Bugle delivery person, Kian Church. Please say hello to Kian when you see him on the monthly delivery, he’s a very sociable young man. We had a strong field of candidates, and the selection was quite a challenge, thank you so much to all who put themselves forward.
Our grateful thanks also to Paul Lambert who has delivered the Bugle for the past two years and has been a very good ambassador for the Parish Council. For many residents having a copy of a paper to their door is a welcome summary of what’s going on that they wouldn’t be without. That said, if you would prefer to have it by email please contact who can arrange this for you.
Up coming is ‘Friday Night Fun’ at the Leisure Centre commencing on the 1st May right through to the 4th September with some food options on alternate weeks. I know a lot of thought and effort has gone into this offering to secure some quality food options for local people. A Gin & Rum Festi- val is planned for Saturday 13th June (7pm), early bird price of £8,00 until 18th May from the Jug and Bottle or online. The Leisure Centre Social Team are also working hard on the arrangements for the Bubwith Fun Day on the 23rd August.
This year is the 75th Anniversary of the Leisure and Sports Centre and it’s hoped to bring back lots of memories of the many people, events and developments that have happened during that time to make the centre the village asset it is today. If anyone has any historic (or not so historic) contributions to make then we’d really like to hear from you. We would also welcome offers of help from volunteers for the event. Please either contact me as detailed below or Tracey Thompson, Centre
Coordinator on we would love to hear from you.
Thank you to Steve and Malcolm who have kindly removed the redundant dog poo bag dispensers, they were a bit of an eyesore but now are gone. These gentlemen will also be shortly erecting our new notice boards, I for one will be relieved to be able to see the notices behind the glass. The final bit of our spring clean focuses on refuse bins (the black ones) which look a bit shabby
Finally, gardening. The PC has a number of gardeners and allotment holders in it’s membership and competition is fierce when it comes to sowing and production (I personally get a lot of flack over my paltry asparagus patch). So for all you gardeners out there, I wish you a happy blend of sunshine and rain with minimal frosts and fewer weeds for this important time of the gardening year.
Best wishes Sandra Hills
